The Old Reading Room is a semi-detached stone cottage on the edge of the picturesque village of Langton Herring. Perfectly located to explore the Jurassic Coast while being in a rural setting surrounded by countryside, you can explore along the Fleet Lagoon Nature Reserve which is just a short walk away which is a paradise for birds and one of the world's few natural lagoon. The South West Coast Path is close by so you can continue to explore the coast on foot if you wish towards Abbotsbury in one direction and Portland in the other. The walking along country routes too is very good which can be enjoyed with your pet as The Old Reading Room accepts one well behaved pet. With very low ambient light in the area it is also an excellent place to sit back and admire the galaxy.
The accommodation at The Old Reading Room comprises of ground floor bedrooms of a king size double, a twin with a family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and toilet. Up to the first floor where there is a single bedroom with en suite shower room. The open plan living area has a log burner, TV and WiFi with the kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with freezer box, dishwasher, washing machine and a range of accessories and utensils. The dining area can comfortably seat six.
Outside is a pretty garden with seating area. There is off road parking for one car. Your fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.
Langton Herring is a small village tucked deep into the Dorset countryside but with great links to nearby Weymouth and Abbotsbury and the whole Jurassic Coast. The village dates back to 1086 and has a number of original 17th and 18th century thatched cottages. The parish church dates from 1682 and it has an 18th century tower.Read more
For eating out within the village there is just the one option - The Elm Tree Inn. It has had a colourful history with stories of smuggling and a possible hidden cellar used for contraband. These days it is more renowned for a great place for a drink and a bight to eat and it has a large beer garden too.
Langton Herring is quite a draw for artists and photographers with its chocolate box buildings and sweeping countryside views. All in all, it is well worth a visit.Read less
