Area details
Osmington is a small village with narrow streets lined with picturesque thatched cottages. It is an excellent base if you are a keen walker or lover of the countryside, it lies on the south west coast path, and the views you get from walks in pretty much any direction are spectacular. From the village itself you get great views over Weymouth Bay towards Portland.
Read moreDominating the view inland is the famous Osmington White Horse, built in 1808 bu John Ranier, James Hamilton and John Wood to honour the king (George III, who was a frequent visitor to the area). The figure on the hillside depicts the King riding a horse but due to illness the King never returned to Weymouth and therefore never saw the landmark. The landmark is 85 metres long and 100 metres high and has recently been restored to its former glory.
Osmington Mills, just along from Osmington itslef, was a small fishing village and the local pub is aptly named as The Smugglers and is well worth a visit. The walk is again picturesque and will take roughly 10 minutes from Osmingotn village.
